My first impression as I boarded the Air France Boeing 777-300 flight from New Delhi to Paris was a good one. Being a frequent flyer with Lufthansa, I am used to flying the A380 out of Delhi, and even though the 777 was not as big as the A380, it looked like a new and well maintained aircraft which made me relax. I was flying economy and had booked a seat with extra leg space beforehand by paying for it online. However when I arrived at my seat, a man who looked like he was in his fifties, had already seated himself there. He told me that he was from Bordeaux and recently had had an operation of the knee. He then requested me if I was so kind to exchange his cramped middle seat with my extra-leg-space-prepaid-aisle seat. I was almost going to buy into his story when I realized that if he was saying the truth, he would not be traveling to India alone. So I didn't let him have my seat and later overheard him talking to the passenger in front of me about how he had traveled to all parts of India alone in local buses and trains! I am glad I did not give him my seat!
Anyway, service in the economy class was okay. The staff was courteous and respectful and I observed that they looked after the needs of the passengers quite well. A la carte menus were distributed before dinner. But, I was hugely disappointed with the coffee. It was served with milk powder instead of the real coffee creamer that I enjoy so much on my Lufthansa flights! For a lot of people, this may not be a big deal but it does put me off a bit. The snack tray was average and breakfast was okay. What really impressed me was the make-up mirror in the bathroom - I have never seen a make-up mirror in economy class anywhere else! In flight entertainment was also average.
All in all, it was an above average flight. I would say that when you get really used to flying the A380s that offer real coffee, it is a challenge to adjust to a smaller plane with cramped seats and no real coffee creamer! But the fact that it was a new and clean plane, made the flight better than an average one.
