I arrived in Tromso Langnes (the airport of Tromso) after a 24 hour flight with two layovers, the longest one being in Oslo for 4 hours. The flight itself was pretty incredible with extraordinary views of the fjords of Norway in the setting sun. It was 7 pm in Tromso and snowing heavily when I took the airport shuttle to the Clarion Hotel The Edge, a luxury Nordic Choice Hotel where I was booked for the next two nights. However, the shuttle did not stop directly in front of the hotel and dropped me a short distance away. Unfortunately the roads were really slippery with the snow, and I had to make a heroic effort of the will to drag my two suitcases to the hotel. When I finally arrived at the front desk, my hands were frozen, my back was hurting and I was justly annoyed! The lady at the front desk did not seem to notice my irritation and after checking me in, informed me that I had been upgraded to a suite! I suddenly experienced a paradigm shift in my mood - the world seemed to be a better place and I forgave the shuttle bus driver for being so inconsiderate!
The room was nice and spacious with a wooden partition dividing the dining area from the bedroom and huge windows with stunning views of the harbor. The next morning when I woke up, and as the sun started to come out, I almost spilled my coffee on me as I looked out of the windows at the magical view of the harbor and the fjord. I could see the famous Arctic Church and the Tromso bridge and there was also a huge cruise ship called Aida docked at the harbor.
Breakfast that morning was surreal - I had ordered room service and enjoyed it to the full while looking at the magnificent Arctic scenery from the comfort of my bed.
The hotel's beautiful and elegant lobby is filled with a vibrant energy as travelers from all over the world go in and out of the main entrance. There is also a fireplace next to the seating area and a bar where one can order drinks and coffee.
The last day of my stay, I enjoyed a hearty buffet-breakfast that was so elaborate, it was hard not to get greedy and try and taste everything!
