A big thanks to my friend Patrick Kelley (www.pk-worldwide.com), photographer for National Geographic, who helped me get some great shots of the hotel!
The Hilton Garden Inn, Kapaa, Kauai, boasts an excellent beachfront location on the Wailua Bay. With only 5 miles from Lihue airport and a short drive to the town of Kapaa, it is an ideal place to stay during your vacation in Kauai. I had initially booked another hotel for my holiday in Kauai but when I arrived there, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. I quickly searched the web for alternatives but since it was peak summer time, almost every other hotel in Kauai was sold out. After spending a frantic couple of hours trying to find an appropriate hotel, I finally booked a King Cottage at the Hilton Garden Inn which was also the last available room at the hotel. Thankfully, I was able to shift into an ocean view room the next day of my stay there.
Once I arrived at the hotel, I was instantly taken in with the relaxed ambience of the open-air lobby. As I waited for the front desk to check me in, I treated myself to the complimentary coffee and cookies while breathing a sigh of relief! It had been well over three hours that I had arrived on the island most of which time was spent in panic, desperately trying to find myself a hotel room! Finally, I could unwind! The front desk greeted me in the true spirit of Aloha and somebody from maintenance was able to help me bring my bags to my room.
As I already mentioned before, the hotel has more than an excellent location! The Lydgate Beach Park, which is one of the best family beaches for swimming, picnicking and snorkeling, is located right across the hotel. I enjoyed swimming in one of the two rock enclosed lagoons at the beach every morning during my stay at the hotel. The Kamalani Playground is next to the beach and the Play Bridge is a short walk along Ke Ala Hele Makalae path. The hotel also has two swimming pools and an outside jacuzzi. After my morning swim at the beach, I would luxuriate myself in the jacuzzi, a right way to begin a day full of adventures exploring the island of Kauai. Beach towels and mats are also available at the front desk.
Guests can enjoy a free introduction of the island with a complimentary buffet breakfast on the first day of their stay at the hotel. Island tours are also available which are sometimes discounted for hotel guests. Although, I did not sign up for any tours, I found the presentation very informative and the breakfast very delicious.
On other days, I ate breakfast either at the hotel restaurant or in my hotel room while enjoying magnificent views of the ocean. The room is equipped with a refrigerator and coffee machine and it was well worth going supermarket shopping for fruits and breakfast cereals, the first day I arrived at the hotel.
I have wonderful memories from my stay at the hotel and if I ever go back to Kauai, will definitely stay there again!
