I spent three nights at the Taj Malabar Resort and Spa in Kochi (Cochin) in Kerala. It was my first visit to Kerala, and I wanted to stay in a luxury spa hotel that gave me the feeling of being in Kerala. I was traveling solo on a business trip. After a three-hour long flight from New Delhi, I finally arrived at the Cochin International Airport where somebody was waiting for me to drive me to the hotel. It took us about an hour to reach the hotel in the late evening rush hour traffic.

The Taj Malabar Resort & Spa is located at the tip of the Willingdon Island, overlooking the harbor. I felt immediately refreshed by the cool sea breeze as I entered the hotel. I received a warm welcome from the front desk staff and the General Manager himself and then checked into my sea-view room. The same evening I enjoyed a delightful swim in the hotel's infinity pool. Next morning I awoke to stunning views of the Arabian sea. It was a beautiful start to my stay in Cochin!

The hotel boasts a luxurious spa offering a variety of authentic, traditional Indian treatments. I highly recommend a 90-minute ayurvedic facial that I indulged in the first day I was at the hotel. A complimentary evening backwater cruise offers magnificent views of the Chinese fishing nets in the distance as the sun gradually sets over the horizon. The cruise nearly makes the trip to Cochin perfect. Also the food is amazing! I am a huge fan of South Indian food, and the dosas and idlis served at the restaurant are so delicious, that even as I am writing this post, I want to go back there!

Even though I have only been to Cochin, I can honestly say that the peaceful vibrations I felt there together with the stunning landscapes makes Kerala one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world! No wonder its called God's Own Country! I can’t wait to get back there!
