On my recent trip to Lucerne, one of the most charming cities in Switzerland, I stayed at the Radisson Blu Lucerne hotel, a newly renovated top 4 star hotel located in the center of Lucerne and in walking distance to the railway station. Before traveling anywhere, I usually take a long time to decide which hotel to stay. The hotel should not only meet all of my requirements but at the same time be affordable, and the facilities provided should match the room rate. I had a number of reasons for choosing the Radisson Lucerne: the location was amazing, the rooms were air conditioned (not all hotels in Switzerland offer air-conditioning!) there was a nice on-site restaurant and a modern fitness centre and sauna (I am the type of person who needs to exercise even while traveling and if I am too tired to exercise, I always use the spa!).
Flying directly from India, I arrived at the Lucerne railway station very late in the night. The streets looked almost abandoned and when I did not see any cabs, I heaved a sigh of relief that the hotel was in walking distance from the railway station. At check-in I was offered the ‘Golden Round Trip to Mount Pilatus’, which I gladly accepted. Mount Pilatus is a massive mountain overlooking Lucerne and the golden round trip to the mountain consists of a boat and a funicular ride. It is a popular tourist destination and worth a visit. Tickets can be purchased directly at the hotel’s reception.
I had booked a premium room with lake view and awoke the next morning to stunning views of Lake Lucerne directly from my bed. After making myself a nice cup of coffee in the Nespresso machine provided in the room, I hit the gym and the spa before treating myself to the delicious buffet breakfast.
I highly recommend this hotel to anybody who wants to stay comfortably in the center of Lucerne and enjoy the luxuries of a 5 star hotel like sauna and spa and air-conditioned comfortable good-sized rooms, at the very affordable 4 star rate. The food was amazing, the staff was efficient and the hotel had a nice friendly vibration. If I go back to Lucerne, I will definitely stay there again!
PS: After my stay at the Radisson Lucerne, I checked into a 5 star resort but I have to say that the service of the hotel did not match the room rate, and I wished I had continued to stay at the Radisson.
