Located on the South Shore of Kauai in Kalaheo, the Kauai Coffee Company as it is called, is the largest coffee plantation in the U.S.A. About 4 million coffee trees are cultivated over 3,100 acres of land producing 25 different kinds of coffee including a variety of flavors like vanilla, chocolate and macadamia amongst others. I drove here with my photographer-guide Patrick (www.pk-worldwide.com) after making a brief stop at the Tree Tunnel.
If you like coffee, then a visit to the plantation is a must. It is also free! You can either take a self-guided tour through the coffee trees or a guided tour which can be booked online. You can also sample their fresh roasted coffees for free between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m everyday. There is also a small cafe where they sell ice-creams and freshly brewed coffee. After touring the plantation, we stopped here for a delicious vanilla-macadamia-nut ice-cream treat!
There is also a gift shop where you can buy coffee for yourself and your friends back home. You also have the opportunity to participate in the Kauai Coffee Company Scavenger Hunt and get treated to a free lunch and a free bag of Kauai Coffee.
