Location & where I stayed
The White Beach or the Basdaku Beach is located in Moalboal in Cebu (Philippines) and is only a few hundred meters from the Blue Orchid Resort, where I stayed. The resort is located on the beach itself, but due to high tide, the beach area around the resort was swept away while I was there!
I visited the beach with my friend Brad. Brad Chilby is a landscape photographer from Sydney (https://chilby.com.au/), Australia. Initially, our plan was to go to the island of Pescador, but since we were over-exhausted from visiting three waterfalls the previous day, including doing Kawasan canyoneering, we decided to take it easy. Starting our day with a late breakfast at the Blue Orchid Resort, where we were staying, we decided to go to White Beach in the afternoon. We rented a paddleboard from the resort for 500 pesos, tied it to the top of our car, and drove to the beach.
Although you can walk to the beach from the resort, we didn't want to carry the bulky paddleboard even if the beach was just a few minutes away. Besides, the sun was out, and it was sweltering!
About White Beach
The beach is a popular tourist destination, especially with families, but since we went there around noon, there was hardly anyone there. There is some debris like broken glass bottles and cans on the beach, and one has to be careful walking. I also saw stray dogs sniffing around.
My experience at the beach
Even though it is not the best beach in the Philippines, it is the only one in Moalboal. We enjoyed our time paddleboarding and getting wet in the water. The water was crystal clear blue and stood out against the yellowish-white sand. The water has some beautiful corals, and there are some restaurants alongside the beach.
My recommendation is not to make a special trip to see the beach. If you have been to other beaches in the Philippines, especially Boracay White Beach, you will be disappointed. We came here because we were tired and exhausted from our trip to Kawasan Falls (and two more waterfalls) the previous day, and didn't have anything else to do that afternoon.
Tour guide and driver, contact information
For my trip to southern Cebu, I hired private guides whom I found online through another travel blog. They are young Filipino boys and licensed canyoneering instructors in Kawasan and live in Badian. They know the island very well. I also hired a driver who lives in Moalboal. They were all helpful, decent people, and we were fortunate to find them. Here are their contact numbers:
Mike Vincent, and you can get in touch with him on Whatsapp at 09363859321 or through Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/mikevincent.africano.9.
His friend Wilson was the one who took us canyoneering. Wilson's phone number is 09975063173 and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/wilson.capacio.
The driver's name is Bogs, and his phone number is 09677201369.
